Little Nostalgic

I was out to my native and was on a long weekend!! My native being on the Southern most part of India is currently on the days of the South West monsoon with the Courtallam Season ON.? I was able to find the same amount of venom from the sun, but the winds blowing with a little of humidity made me feel much relaxed and cool. Being in the city, We really miss a lot of good things found around the country.

  • A relaxed life.
  • Good Air and water.
  • Great winds that consoles your body and mind.
  • Green Trees where you love to rest by.

I feel little nostalgic and want to live in such a peace rather than living in the hot polluted city.

The main constraint of moving to such place being in the software industry is the necessity of Internet to make your living. Tele-com Vendors are feeling the necessity to taking broadband to these places.? I feel that the days are not too long for us to migrate to such place. Waiting for the opportunity.

The Trip arround Kumbakonam !!!

Last week we were out to one of my friends wedding @ Kumbakonam. Kumbakonam is a place that is surrounded by a lot of temples. Most temples were built during the period of cholas. Kumbakonam - Tanjore belt is famous for the fertility of the lands watered by the Great Kaveri river. During the month of January, I visited the famous Tanjai Periya Koil. The temple was built by the Great Raja Raja Cholan during 10th Century. This time we went to three temples - Pateeswaram , Darasuram , and GangaiKonda Cholapuram. Each temple has its own speciality. Darasuram is the temple dates back to the 12th Century and Gangai Konda chola puram dates back to 11th Century.

Gangai konda Chola Puram

Most temples around Tanjore district were of Lord Shiva.

Thoppur Ghats and Railway Line

We traveled from Bangalore to Erode on last Sunday. We boarded the train in B’lore @ 6:15 am. The train crossed the Dharmapuri around 8:30 AM and I was on train on this line for the first time. It was a wonderful view out with full of hills and valleys to watch. Nature looked more attractive that it was able to move my eyes off a beautiful gal near me on to it. The train runs on the track laid at the edges of the ghats. Will really love to travel on the track on a sunny evening around 5 to 6 PM, when the golden rays of the dusking sun falls on it!!!

Update your Contact Numbers

We were traveling to Neyveli last week for a friend’s wedding by car. A friend of mine lost his wallet in one of the motels we stopped by on the GST. We did not realize the misplacement till we attended the marriage and started to return. We suspected the motel halt and headed there on our return journey. We inquired the motel reception and we found that the purse has been handed over by some unknown person to the motel reception. We did not find any cash inside it, but all the credit cards were present. The motel wallah told that he tried all the numbers and none of them worked. I cross checked my purse and I do have only my mobile number in my purse and no other contact number. Please make sure you do have enough contact infos inside your Wallet. Only the wallet will return and not your money. Your VOIP phone numbers or your internet contact info won’t be the right things to be kept.
  • A couple of phone numbers other than your phone number.
  • complete address to which the purse can be sent.
  • Make your Credit card limits reasonably low.

Cheers,

SankaranKoil - Shiva + Vishnu

Last weekend I was there to SankaranKoil, A 900 year old temple and a 40 km drive from my village. The temple is under renovation. The walls are all weekend and there were plastering work going to strengthen it back. The walls of the temple were built in the same old way of putting some mortar in between the stones just to keep it intact there is no extra plastering work done around it as we do with brick and mortar today.? But the walls are given all round support to Stand.

About the temple :

The temple was built by UkiraPandian before 900 years and completed by his son Pulidevan. The temple was built as an answer to the fight of Shaivas [the devotees of Lord Shiva] and Vaishnavas [the devotees of Lord Vishnu]. The temple has an idol of ShankaraNarayanar, half Lord Shiva and half Lord Vishnu.

The general belief is that the Holy Sand “Puttrumann” that you get from this temple is capable of curing all the diseases. Devotees believe that Sankarankoil‘s Nagasunai (sacred tank) have been dug by serpent kings named Paduman and Sangam which has a miraculous power to heal those who bathe there. The Annadhanam scheme is being conducted in the temple when daily noon meals are being provided for around 100 devotees.

There are four famous festivals for this temple:

  • Chithhirai Bramotsava ( 10 days ) Every April
  • Adi thapasu festival ( 12 days ) August
  • Iyppasi Thirukkalyanam festival ( 10 days ) October
  • Theppam floating festival - Thai last Friday ( Every February )

History of the temple is from wikipedia.
