Does Reading faster matters?

The amount of information you hold in day today life keeps you up on the ladder in this world , any industry and in the society. One of the most important factor to gain information is reading. It is not how fast you read but how fast you can digest the data available and take the juice into your mind. ZenHabbits gives you six points on how you can improve your reading speed.

  • ? Realize that reading is not from beginning to end, but rather point to point.
  • Try using a pacing tool.
  • Get rid of all distractions and possible interruptions.
  • Try to read more than one word at a time.
  • Never move backwards.

Napoleon and the blind Language

I was reading through how the browser agent read through the html code sent to the browser from a server. A couple of interesting things happened. A different kind of rendering with 6 dots and their projects for the blind.

It was first designed as Night Writing by a Charles Barbier when Napoleon asked for a silent communication code for his soldiers during night. It was designed to have 2 columns of 6 dots each. This system was little complex to learn and use and it was rejected by the military. The same system has been miniatured to 6 dots by Louis Braille. It once again had two columns, but only three cells each. A simple representation for A and 1 and what should precede on a number and letter is as shown in the figure.

A, 1 Capital letter follows Number Follows

Chennai roads are getting Dangerous !!!

Chennai roads are getting dangerous day by day. There are a lot of people driving across the streets with no traffic sense. From June 1, the law enforces wearing of helmets for the bike drivers compulsory. Inspite of that there are a lot more things to be set right.

  • Metro transport drivers should be taught with some common sense of driving and strick punishments for accidents.
  • People should be taught to keep lanes when they cross signals to turn right or left. Some thing like “Right lane should turn right”, “Right turners should not take any other lane”,etc.,
  • Speed limits should be enforced strictly except in case of emergency.
  • Unnecessary crossing of roads for basic requirements like metro water should be avoided. I noticed today morning a lady crossing the Velachery main road in Pallikaranai to fetch Metro water @ 9 am which is a very high traffic flow time.
  • Warnings, fines and License cancelling should be enforced correctly and should be followed.
  • and more ….

Drive Safe !!!

Computers on Global Warming !!!

The PCs are playing a huge role in making the globe a warmer place. As per Amit Agarwal a normal computer consumes and emits this much of heat into the atmosphere.

One computer left on 24 hours a day will cost you $115 - 160 in electricity costs a year and dump 1,500 pounds of CO2 into the atmosphere.

A tree absorbs between 3-15 lbs of CO2 each year. That means that 100-500 trees would be needed to offset the yearly emissions of one computer left on all the time

It is good to:

  • Turn off your computer when it is not used. Atleast your monitors.
  • It is better to buy Laptops. Laptops consume lesser energy 1/4 of the Desktop PC and LCD Monitors use only 1/3rd of the CRT ones

Do take part in making this world a better place to live..
